A148. Joaquim Portela Arquitetos Office

Porto, Portugal

2019

This office was designed based on the matrix of our behaviors and the unique characteristics of this space, a building designed by the architect Souto de Moura. The concept involves the creation of an open space office, where everyone can be involved in the same working environment, with the same conditions, facilitating communication between everyone. Even the meeting area and the boardroom is open. It reflects our daily work, our routines, our organization and even our way of communicating. The furniture, designed by Joaquim Portela, was the key element to define the layout of the space. The result is a simple space that follows a very detailed development process. All the infrastructures are embedded in the floor, walls and ceiling, including the sound system. The space is also punctuated by some design pieces from architects and designers we admire. Natural light and the resulting visual spaciousness are the standout features, resulting in a space that is much larger than the area itself. It is known that exposing people to natural light contributes to a better mood and energy, increasing concentration and reducing fatigue. Basically, we feel that we are not in a closed space, which contributes to everyone's happiness. As architects, we can only be excellent and creative if we love what we do. It goes without saying that if the space where we work is designed with the responsibility and awareness to develop conditions that make the people who work there feel good, this will go a long way to increasing creativity and productivity.
